A Sinking Spring man has been arrested for allegedly stalking a Fleetwood woman.

Fleetwood Borough Police report that at 7:48 a.m. on Feb. 1, Officer Dale Ulshafer was dispatched to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Main and Richmond streets in Fleetwood. The vehicle was observed to be parked and occupied for an extended period of time in the neighborhood of the caller just outside of Fleetwood Borough.

“Having seen the strange vehicle leave and return a short time later the witness called 911 out of concern for the safety of neighborhood children and provided a description of the vehicle and continued to update dispatchers with the vehicle’s location as it reportedly drove erratically throughout Fleetwood Borough,” according to Fleetwood Police.

Officer Ulshafer located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop during which Robert Carmelengo, 28, Sinking Spring, was identified as the front seat passenger.

Ulshafer searched the vehicle discovering a bag containing improvised restraints, pepper spray, two stun guns, a heavy metal pipe, a large fixed blade knife and latex gloves.

Investigation determined that Carmelengo had been stalking and harassing a 34-year-old Fleetwood woman since she broke off their relationship in March 2015 and that the woman lived in the same neighborhood as the caller.

The Carmelengo was transferred to the custody of the Berks County Sheriff’s Department pending his preliminary arraignment.

The Carmelengo was remanded to the Berks County Prison in lieu of $25,000 cash bail.
