2 charged with drug related offenses after DUI traffic stop on Route 222 in Fleetwood

A suspected DUI traffic stop at 1:45 a.m. on Feb. 6 led police to discover that the driver and passenger had outstanding warrants. Various controlled substances were also found in the vehicle.

Fleetwood Borough Police Chief Steven Stinsky reports that Jacob Boyd, 28, Reading, was charged with DUI, traffic and drug related offences and his passenger Heather Wanner, 29, Reading, was charged with drug related offenses.

According to Stinksy, at about 1:36 a.m., Fleetwood Police were dispatched to a reported erratic driver who had just turned northbound onto Route 662 from Main Street in Fleetwood. Police observed the vehicle pulling out of the Sheetz parking lot onto northbound Route 222.

“The vehicle was traveling well under the posted speed limit and drifting from side to side in the northbound lane of travel and periodically travelling with two wheels in the center turn lane and two wheels in the northbound lane,” according to the police report.

Police conducted a traffic stop on Route 222 at Schuler Road.

The driver, Boyd, was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI and for outstanding warrants.

Police also conducted a routine check of the front seat passenger’s driver license. Wanner also had an outstanding warrant and she was taken into custody.

A search of the vehicle yielded a loaded 9mm pistol, paraphernalia and various controlled substances.

Boyd was charged with DUI, traffic and drug related offenses and Wanner was charged with drug related offenses.

Both were transferred to the custody of the Berks County Sheriff’s Department pending their preliminary arraignment.

Investigation continues. Fleetwood Police were assisted at the scene by Kutztown Borough Police.
