    Jackson Mcclosky a 5th-grader representing Mrs. Dimitrov's class, was the AEC National Geographic (Nat Geo) Bee champion. Alexa Geisler, a 5th-grader representing Mr. Pennington's class, was the runner-up.

    All of the 10 finalists had won their individual classroom bees leading to the school-wide competition. Jackson Mcclosky a 5th-grader representing Mrs. Dimitrov's class, was the night's champion. Alexa Geisler, a 5th-grader representing Mr. Pennington's class, was the runner-up. Anthony Bolling, a 4th-grader representing Mrs. Lamothe's class, Grayson Fair, a 4th-grader representing Mrs. Seifert's class, Lauren Kaba, a 5th-grader representing Mrs. Cooke's class, Dane Pingitore, a 4th-grader representing Mr. Key's class, Tessa Morton, a 4th-grader representing Mrs. Worrell's class, Dani Ferrara, a 4th-grader representing Mrs. Clarke's class, Molly Schappell, a 5th-grader representing Mrs. Ast's class, and Scott DeMild, a 5th-grader representing Mr. DeLoretta's class rounded out our 10 finalists.

On Thursday, Feb. 4, the Amity Elementary Center held its annual Scripps/Howard Spelling Bee.

The competition was intense and Jackson actually had to fight off elimination at one point by answering a question correctly to gain a berth in the finals. Alexa had answered every question correctly until the final 3-question series. Jackson won the competition on the question: “British Columbia’s largest city hosted the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup championship game. Name this city.” Do you know the answer?
