The Central Berks Lions Club recently distributed awards to two of its honorable members.

Tom Degler received both the Lion of the Year Award for 2013-2014 and the prestigious Melvin Jones Award. The Melvin Jones Award is the highest form of recognition within Lionism and is presented to a Lion who demonstrated exemplary service and dedication to their club.

Degler joined the club in 2006 and has served as First Vice President, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Chairman of the Chicken Barbecue and Santa Claus for the children’s Christmas Party, and is the club’s President-Elect for the upcoming Lion’s year beginning in July. A native of Leesport, Degler is a realtor for Keller-Williams Central PA East and resides in Shillington.

Nancy Zipp received the Central Berks Lion of the Year Award for 2014-2015. Zipp, of Dauberville, joined the club in 2005 and has served as the Club’s Tail Twister for several years. She has also served on the Board of Directors, the White Cane Committee, the Road Clean-Up Crew, the Calling Committee, the Flower Committee, the Kitchen Committee and the Picnic in the Park Committee.
