Opening night is finally here! The Boyertown Area Senior High school spring musical, Disney’s “Mary Poppins” will begin its four night run Thursday, April 7 at 7 p.m.

Based on P.L. Travers series of children’s books, as well as the 1964 Disney movie musical, the show is a blend of both storylines. Julian Fellowes of “Downton Abbey” fame had a hand in creating this exciting story, blending the beloved movie with new adventures from the Traver’s books. Theater goers will recognize the lighthearted “Let’s Go Fly a Kite” and the heartfelt “Feed the Birds” and enjoy new numbers such as “Precision and Order” and the uplifting “Anything Can Happen”.

For almost five months now, the students have been working toward opening night, and many elements will be coming together to create this delightful experience. While the students have been practicing on stage, the orchestra has been rehearsing, and an army of parents and volunteers has been engineering and building the set.

Some years, the show selected will have a role that needs to be filled by a younger student. Previous shows, such as “Les Miserables” and “Beauty and the Beast” have featured a student of two from one of the elementary schools. This year, “Mary Poppins” has several roles for our younger musicians. Six students from among the Boyertown elementary schools auditioned and will be taking part. In addition to Sydney Kuszyk and Joey Casey, who are filling the roles of the Banks children, rising stars Grace Major, Olivia Helmer, Greta Freed and Jacob Moser will be participating. Look for them in some of the larger numbers such as “Let’s Go Fly a Kite” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.”

Performances will be held on Thursday, April 7; Friday, April 8; and Saturday, April 9 at 7 p.m., with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, April 10. During intermission, refreshments will be available in the lobby.
