Maxatawny Township resident Russell Burkholder is choosing to settle his civil case with the township board of supervisors outside of court.

Burkholder, a resident of Bowers Road, was cited seven years ago due to piles of dirt and other debris tarnishing his property. The township’s issue lied in the possibility of contaminants affecting the area’s groundwater quality, according to township officials.

“It’s been seven years since we have been dealing with this,” Code Enforcement Officer Chris Paff said.

“We’ve had a couple agreements for cleaning things up, and we’ve spent a lot of money on consent agreements, so we’ve tried to do as much as we could, but we’re still in the same position as before,” board Solicitor Jill Nagy said.

Given the option to either move all of the debris by May 30 fine or face a judge in court, Burkholder has chosen to settle outside of court, according to township officials.

In other news, Scout Austin Mohn approached the board with a request for permission to build a bridge. The bridge would span across a section of the Saucony Creek at William DeLong Park on Bowers Road. Mohan said he hoped to build a bridge “to help people get across the creek” as part of his Eagle Scout project.

Mohn also asked for any financial assistance he may need throughout the course of the project.

Ultimately, the board agreed that if Mohn was able to receive approval on the numerous state permits he would initially need, then it would be more than happy to help.

“We would love to help out a local Eagle Scout,” said board Chairman Allen Leiby.

Also in the way of approvals by the board, the developers of the proposed Arrowhead business complex, located on Delaware Drive, were granted final preliminary approval to begin construction of the project, as long as it receives appropriate fencing.

The board meets again May 10.
