Congressman Patrick Meehan (PA-7) congratulated area high school students competing in the 7th Congressional District Art Competition at an awards ceremony at the Darlington Arts Center in Garnet Valley, Delaware County on Monday evening.

The competition is an opportunity for high school students from across the 7th District to compete to have their work featured at the U.S. Capitol in Washington.

Various forms of art are considered and the winner is chosen by a board of art enthusiasts and experts. Winners are recognized at an annual ceremony and the winner of “Best in Show” will have his or her work displayed in halls of the U.S. Capitol for one year along with other winners from across the country.

This year’s “Best in Show” was awarded to Emily Brownlowm, of Twin Valley High School, for her work titled “Self Portrait.”

“Congratulations to all of this year’s winners, particularly Twin Valley High School’s Emily Brownlow,” said Congressman Meehan. “I look forward to seeing Emily’s work each time I walk from my office to the House floor to vote. Every year we’ve hosted this event I’ve been awed by the talent and commitment of so many of the young people who participate. I’m grateful for the Darlington Arts Center for hosting us for this week’s event and I’m grateful to the judges who volunteered their time to assess the competitors’ work.”

This year, 13 participating high schools submitted 125 works of art.
