Dr. George F. Fiore has been selected as the new superintendent of schools for the Kutztown Area School District.

Fiore succeeds Kathy Metrick, who is officially retiring from KASD. Effective Aug. 1, Fiore will join the administrative team as the assistant to the superintendent for a two-month transition period with Metrick. He will take the helm as the superintendent effective Oct. 1.

The KASD Board of Directors made the appointment official at its meeting Monday, April 18.

Carl Ziegler, president of the KASD Board of Directors, stated, “We are pleased to have secured Dr. George Fiore as our new superintendent of schools. Dr. Fiore is an exemplary educational leader who serves as an advocate for students. He is a proven leader and is well respected in the field of education. The KASD Board of Directors has full confidence that Dr. Fiore will provide inspirational leadership for KASD as superintendent of schools in advancing the achievement of our students and staff, and serving our community.”

Fiore is currently serving as high school principal for the Wilson School District (student population: 1,950; staff members: 200-plus). He has implemented an inquiry instructional model, developed a student internship program and coordinated a 1:1 computer implementation in grades nine to 12. Previously, he served as headmaster at Downingtown STEM Academy, part of the Downingtown Area District. Fiore has extensive education experience as a teacher and administrator. He also serves as an adjunct professor within the School of Graduate Education for Kutztown University.
