Individuals and communities throughout the world celebrated Earth Day on Friday, April 22, and Governor Mifflin was no exception.

Since November – students have watched several trout hatch and grow as a part of the Advanced Placement Biology and Environmental Biology class taught by Science teacher Chris Killinger.

The activity is part of an interactive lesson on cold water conservation and was made possible through Trout Unlimited and the Pennsylvania Fish and Game Commission. Killinger introduced the lesson three years ago after receiving a grant from Trout Unlimited. Since then, he has received the grant each year and had been able to continue with the lesson for both classes.

On April 22, students released the trout into the Wyomissing Creek at Mohnton Playground.

To prepare for the release, the trout were packed in icy water to maintain healthy temperatures. Once students arrived at the site, they took water samples and then released the fish into their natural habitat.
