UPPER POTTSGROVE >> The motorcyclist involved in a Tuesday crash on Farmington Avenue near Route 100 has died from his injuries, authorities said Wednesday.

Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim stated in a press release Wednesday that Paul Damiano, 55, of Upper Pottsgrove, died Tuesday at 8:11 p.m. at Lehigh Valley Hospital following a serious crash. His cause of death, according to Grim, was attributed to severe head injuries and the manner of death was ruled accidental. Police said Damiano was not wearing a helmet.

Police responded to the crash along Farmington Avenue at the northbound exit of Route 100 at 5:20 p.m. The crash occurred as a red Mazda sedan, driven by Heide Ott of Phoenixville, was attempting to turn off Route 100 onto Farmington Avenue.

As Ott made the turn, a white Harley Davidson motorcycle crashed into the side of the car, police said. The driver of the motorcycle, identified as Damiano, was transported to Pottstown Memorial Medical Center by Gilbertsville Ambulance and later flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital near Allentown, which is a regional trauma center.

Upper Pottsgrove Police confirmed Wednesday that Damiano had not been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and sustained a serious head injury before his death.

Upper Pottsgrove Fire Company, West End Fire Company, Gilbertsville Ambulance, Upper Pottsgrove Fire Police, Ringing Hill Fire Police, West End Fire Police, Douglass-Montgomery Police and Faust Auto Body Towing and several residents assisted Upper Pottsgrove Police at the scene.

Fire police closed Farmington Avenue at the off ramp of Route 100 for several hours.

Police are continuing to investigate and ask that anyone with information related to the crash contact Upper Pottsgrove Police Department at 610-326-8446.
