Registration is now open for Chester County students entering second through sixth grade who want to attend GSK Science in the Summer, a free enrichment program celebrating 30 years of bring fun, hands-on science learning to more than 150,000 elementary students.

Sponsored by GSK and administered by The Franklin Institute in partnership with local libraries, GSK Science in the SummerTM courses are taught by certified teachers with exciting experiments that introduce core scientific principles to students at a young age while exposing them to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning.

This summer, Chester County elementary students will have the opportunity to take a course in Genetics. Students will investigate human chromosomes and genes by building a cell, examining their own fingerprints and constructing a DNA molecule. They’ll even extract DNA from a strawberry!

In Chester County, GSK Science in the SummerTM classes take place over four days, with one-hour sessions each day. Unless otherwise noted, class times are as follows: Level 1 (students who will be entering second or third grade in fall 2016) will meet 9:45 to 10:15 a.m. OR 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. Level 2 (students who will be entering grades four through six in fall 2016) will meet 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. OR 2 to 3 p.m.
