Fleetwood students were evacuated from the high school on Thursday afternoon, May 5.

“The threat was written in a bathroom and was discovered Thursday afternoon. It had a time on it and the building was evacuated prior to that time,” said Fleetwood Superintendent Dr. Paul Eaken. “We are not releasing the specific time nor what was written.”

Eaken said a student saw the writing and reported it to high school staff.

Canine units from the Berks County Sheriffs Office and the Reading Police searched the building with the support of the Fleetwood Police and cleared it for occupancy, according to Eaken.

The building was reopened at 5 p.m. that day.

“Parents of high school students were notified of the early dismissal and parents and staff district-wide were notified that the threat was specific to the high school and that the other buildings in the school district would be dismissed at their normal time,” said Eaken.

Eaken said the investigation is continuing into who wrote the threatening message.
