Zion Mennonite Church’s Youth Group, in Birdsboro, recently partnered with World Vision for a fund raising event called the “30 Hour Famine.”

During the 30 hour time period, Zion Mennonite Youth Group hosted a bake sale at BB’s Grocery Outlet in Morgantown. Youth leader, Sara Schlosser, shared that $500 was raised for World Vision through the sale, which will feed one child for 14 months. The proceeds gained from the bake sale will go to improving farming techniques, providing clean water and giving emergency food supplies to areas in need.

The full 30 hour event took place Friday, April 29 through Saturday, April 30. The participants, which included eight youth and four adults, went without food in order to get a glimpse of what many people are experiencing around the world.

Pastor Steve Musselman of Zion Mennonite Church said that it was an opportunity to “learn about people’s hunger situations through stories and activities as they raise money to combat hunger.”
