For 12 days in June, middle and high school students will attend an intensive non-residential program to learn the Mandarin language and Chinese culture.

Students will participate in hands-on experiences throughout the camp. A recital for parents, families and community members to showcase student work will be held on June 29, at 2 p.m. in the theater on the Albright College Campus. Experts in Peking opera and a magician from China, along with middle and high school students, will present Lion Dance, Peking Opera, shadow puppets, songs and skits learned during the language camp.

The Berks County Intermediate Unit’s summer language program, STARTALK 2016 – Language Learning through Performing Art, is funded by the National Security Language Initiative (NSLI). NSLI was created in 2006 to promote the learning of critical languages.
