While two men claimed to be checking for a gas leak, jewelry and money were stolen from a Fleetwood elderly couple on Saturday.

Fleetwood Borough Police reported on the department Facebook page that at about 4 p.m. on May 14, a thin white male, between ages 20 and 30, approached an elderly resident in the 300 block of West Race Street in Fleetwood Borough.

“He convinced her he was checking for a gas leak.”

A second male was described as 30 to 40, thin with a tan complexion, a day growth of facial hair and was wearing tinted glasses, a baseball hat and gloves that had words similar to “seashore fishing” on them.

After the two men left, the residents discovered jewelry and money was taken.

The subjects were last seen walking towards Chestnut Street.

A Chevy work type pickup with a black grill was seen in a nearby alley at the time of the crime. It is unknown if the truck is related to the crime.
