Several Kutztown High School students kept the annual Tractor Day tradition alive, driving their tractors to school on Friday, May 20.

Later that afternoon, a group gathered around three tractors parked outside the high school in the parking lot.

“Tractor Day has always been a tradition I’ve always remembered Kutztown to have, from kindergarten on up,” said Kutztown freshman Jacob Moatz, 15, who drove his tractor to school. “I think it’s important we keep it alive.”

He said the Kutztown area is a rural community.

“(We have) some of the best soil in the state and tractors are what’s used to work it. I think it’s important we keep our agricultural heritage alive,” said Moatz.

Kutztown sophomore Jarad Luckenbill, 16, likes that Tractor Day embraces Kutztown’s agricultural history.

“And since we’re a small town and a small school, there’s a lot of farms in the area, it just pretty much is us,” he said.

Matthew Strauss, 15, freshman, agreed that Tractor Day is something “that needs to stick around.”

“It’s part of Pa’s agriculture,” said Strauss. “It’s all together a good day.”

Tractor Day has been a tradition for everyone in Chayse Mohr’s family.

“I thought why not gather some buddies together and drive tractors to school,” said the 16-year-old sophomore,

“I think Tractor Day is cool and exciting because you get to bring your tractor from the farm to the school,” said Asher Zettlemoyer, 16, sophomore. “Something different, exciting, keep it authentic.”

Jacob Dreibelbis, 17, sophomore, said Tractor Day is fun.

“It’s cool to see them go past. It’s just fun.”
