Juliette Gordon Low (1860-1927) was the founder of Girl Scouts of the USA, with the help of Sir Robert Baden-Powell. Juliette joined the Girl Guide movement when she formed a group of Girl Guides in Scotland in 1911. In 1912, she returned to the United States and formed the first American Girl Guide troop in Savannah Georgia. Three years later, Girl Guides in the United States became known as the Girl Scouts and Juliette Low was the first president.

Juliette Low (portrayed by Margaret Labosh) visited Girl Scout troops 11058, 1443, 1946 and 11140, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Obelisk during their annual Mother/Daughter Tea held on May 10. Juliette shared with the group her life story and how Girl Scouts began in the United States. She brought along a big display of items found in nature (those that belong and those that have been left behind by human beings). The participants then had the opportunity to label which items belonged in our parks, wooded areas and neighborhoods. Juliette talked about the origins of Earth Day and the importance of cleaning up after ourselves, as well as how to use non-toxic cleaners around the house.

Margaret Labosh has been portraying Juliette Gordon Low for years. She enjoys visiting Girl Scouts troops around the Council area, sharing her story of how Girl Scouts began in the United States and the social and global issues that were important to Juliette.
