Kutztown Grange hosted their annual Community Night, open to the public, in April. State Grange president Elizabeth Downey, along with other State and County Grange officers were in attendance.

The evening included membership awards to Sandra and Lee Mengel of Kutztown for 50 years of continuous membership and also to Shirley Stricker, of Kutztown, for 65 years.

A Community Service award of $1,000 was presented to the Kutztown Historical Society. Sheila Fulton, Nancy Hildebrand and Craig Koller accepted the donation for the Historical Society. Craig and Sheila spoke about upcoming events and exhibits at the Historical Society, which is open to the public.

The Kutztown Granger of the Year was presented to Kenneth Dietrich, present Master of Kutztown Grange, who volunteers hundreds of hours to the Grange and other community activities.

Entertainment for the evening was presented by pianist Karl Hausman. Karl played a variety of musical selections that were familiar to everyone, from oldies and classics to Disney and current pieces.

The Grange, the oldest agricultural based organization in the United States, is open for membership for anyone from age 14 and up. Junior Grange membership is available for children ages five to 14. The Grange is involved in current legislative issues and numerous other areas of everyday life.
