Recently, the Pottstown Middle School’s concert and jazz bands filled the air with some sweet music as they participated in the annual “Music in the Parks” festival held in Hershey. The concert band placed second in its division with an overall score of “Excellent.” They performed their trademark numbers, “Air from County Derry” and “High Water Mark: The Third Day.”

The jazz band received a “Superior” rating while placing first in its division and distinguished itself as the best overall jazz band in all divisions in the entire competition. They created some sweet music as they performed the “Tiger of San Pedro” featuring soloists Jake Eagle and Anthony Russo on trumpets. Chloe Hebert on tenor sax and Jake Eagle on trumpet also provided solo performances during the “Cool Joe, Mean Joe” performance.

Director Ben Hayes was proud of the effort and performance of both groups.

“It has been tremendous to see these two groups transform and grow both musically and as members of a family,” he said. “They respect one another and showed great pride in themselves and in Pottstown. They wear the name Pottstown on their shirts and understand the amount of responsibility that goes into wearing that name. They made me very proud today in the way that they held their heads high throughout the entire competition.”
