LOWER POTTSGROVE >> A member of the zoning hearing board is the latest person to be appointed to the board of township commissioners.
Bob Mohollen was selected from among three applicants to fill the post vacated abruptly two weeks ago by Commissioner James Vlahos.
The other two applicants – Charles Nippert and B. Scott Fulmer – also applied last year for the vacancy which preceded this one and was filled with the appointment of Ray Lopez.
Unlike when that post was filled – to replace Shawn Watson who resigned under a cloud over non-payment of taxes – there were no public interviews this time, said board Vice Chairman Stephen Klotz.
He did not say why.Mohollen, a certified public accountant, has been on the zoning board for seven years.
Because he is not legally permitted to serve on both the board of commissioners and the zoning hearing board, said Township Solicitor Charles D. Garner Jr., Mohollen had to resign from the zoning hearing board.
The board of supervisors unanimously accepted that resignation, as well as unanimously appointing him to replace Vlahos, who resigned May 2.
His was the fourth resignation from the board of commissioners in the last two years.
His resignation came years and one month after he was appointed to the Lower Pottsgrove Board of Commissioners in June 2014, to replace Jonathan Spadt, who stepped down a month earlier.
Vlahos was elected to a full four-year term in November and his resignation means Mohollen will serve until the next municipal election” at the end of 2017.
The seat is then once again open in a general election for the remaining two years of the term.
