According to the borough’s 150th anniversary committee, the time capsule is now open and the contents are ready to be shared with the community.
“The Big Reveal” Open House will be held at the Boyertown Historical Society on Sunday, June 12 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Everyone is welcome to stop in to see what has been stored underground for half a century. The time capsule itself – a small casket building by Boyertown Casket Company, will be on display in addition to the contents.
Light refreshments will be served.
Organizers originally hoped to reveal the contents back on Friday, May 20, when the capsule was dug up and pulled out of the ground. However, due the rust and corrosion – and a thick layer of glass – the contents could not be retrieved at that time.
This time capsule was buried back in 1966, during the borough’s Centennial celebration.
At the end of this year’s Sesquicentennial Celebration in October, a new time capsule will be buried. The 150 committee is looking for items to represent past 50 years, suggestions are welcomed.
The Boyertown Historical Society is located at 43 South Chestnut Street,
