Denney Electric Supply has just opened its Lighting Showroom to offer a different type of experience than one found through a catalog.
According to Scott Fenton, Regional Showroom Manager, this showroom is the only one of its kind in the region with around 200 lights on display.
The company opened their doors in Boyertown in 1988, continuing to grow and adapt as times change.
“Everything has changed,” computers, trucks, web store,” said Steve Thornton, CEO. “We’re making the commitment in time, people, and technology to take the store into the next decade.”
Among those changes is technology, and the staff at Denney Electric has been busy keeping with the latest trends. The showroom offers a way to deliver that knowledge to the community.
“We don’t want consumers to be afraid to come in; people need to be guided through the technology,” said Jim Barton, Boyertown Branch Manager, noting that they don’t just sell to contractors. “Technology has changed, people have questions.”
“People don’t think of lighting as technology,” said Jill Weiskopf, marketing coordinator. “That’s the big change.”
“And the way people want to control their technology, even though it’s easy to use – they need to be guided through it,” said Barton.
The team says LED lighting is the hot item right now, and with that, wireless connections. Barton said just in the past five years, smart phone technology has begun to replace motion sensors.
“We feel that when the consumer goes to the ‘big box’ stores, they’re not getting any help. Here we offer all that design service and everything,” said Thornton. “We help lay out homes, landscapes.”
“We do anything from the utility transformer on the pole or the on ground to the wall outlet – all of the stuff in between there,” said Barton. “There are a lot of pieces and parts.”
The company can service everything from a skyscraper or factory to the little league ball field, and in addition to educating themselves and consumers, they keep contractors up-to-date and educated about the products.
Thornton says it’s a local business, “We’ve been doing this for four generations. We want to remain independent and local, support our communities and employees.”
“The showroom is a true showroom,” said Weiskopf. “Its representative of what we have here; and we have access to so much more. People come in and it’s just like shopping for any big purpose – you get an idea of what you want, see something that inspires you.”
Denney Electric Supply includes eight branches throughout Pennsylvania. This year the Ambler location has been listed in Electrical Wholesaling’s annual survey of the Top 200 electrical distributors.
The Boyertown branch operates out of a large facility at 523 Rhoads Avenue.
“We’re really committed to the local areas we’re in,” said Weiskopf. “We try to be a resource as much as we are a retailer. We’re here to offer guidance, help improve lives.”
