Despite a weather forecast that included potential thunderstorms and possible hail, the Fleetwood Rotary Club wound up with the hottest day in June (to date) for their 11th Annual “Show of Wheels” show, and not a drop of rain or hail to be seen.
The 241 cars, trucks and motorcycles entered the annual event and there was truly something for car enthusiast’s taste on display in the Fleetwood Community Park on June 11.
The Fleetwood Fire Company Truck Crew assists the Rotary Club with the event which includes breakfast, lunch, door prizes, auctions, 50/50 drawing, entertainment and even a Rubber Duck Race in the creek, as well as the car show.
“Our Car Show benefits so many,” said Fleetwood Rotarian Gary Eberly.
Locally, Eberly said some of the things the proceeds have benefited over the years have included the construction of a safety fence at the Pricetown baseball field to provide safety from the highway for little children. Fleetwood Rotary Club constructed three pavilions at Fleetwood Community Pool for shade and a walking trail and exercise stations at FLeetwood Park.
The Club assists each year with the Potato Project which supplies tons of potatoes for local food pantries. Fleetwood Rotary also recognizes a student of the month and teacher of the quarter for both Fleetwood and Oley Valley school districts. They award a scholarship to a senior from each of the two districts.
“On the day of the car show we have a clothing drive for the City Thrift Shop and match one dollar for each article of clothing donated by participants up to $1,000 which in turn is donated to the community library. We have donated $1,000 to the library each of the last four years. Four years ago we took the fire company under our wing and they now run the concessions and in turn benefit from the proceeds of that,” said Eberly.
Nationally and internationally, Eberly said Fleetwood Rotary “provides Shelter Boxes for victims of disasters, have all but eradicated polio and build potable water area’s for 3rd world countries. As you can see we are a very active and involved club and your help makes it possible.”
