Hamburg Farmers’ Market relaunches with a Grand Opening on Sunday, July 10.

“There used to be a farmers market in Hamburg, but it closed up a couple years ago because the old manager didn’t have the time to keep it running. A lot of local residents, myself included, still wanted to have a local farmers market in town,” said Casey Schneck, market co-manager with Angela Heffner.

Schneck explained that earlier this year Heffner and Schneck separately contacted the Our Town Foundation and offered to help get the market started again. The market will be run under the Our Town Foundation and co-managed by Heffner and Schneck.

“The OTF is a non-profit focused on revitalizing downtown Hamburg. We’re working with the OTF director Deena Kershner to get it up and running,” said Schneck.

The Hamburg Farmers’ Market relaunches on July 10 and will remain open until Oct. 9 on Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. The Market will not be held on Sept. 4 due to the Taste of Hamburg Festival. The Market is located in State Street Square, at 228 State Street, in Hamburg (large grassy lot next to Ala Mode).

“The purpose is to provide a space to buy and sell healthy, local food, as well as handmade items,” said Schneck. “We want to contribute to the sense of community in Hamburg and help bolster the local economy. It’s open to vendors with produce, meats, dairy, baked goods, seedlings and perennial plants, and art pieces.”

The Market is an open-air atmosphere where residents will have the opportunity to purchase a variety of homegrown and homemade items such as pastured meats, eggs, canned and baked goods, homegrown produce, seedlings, native perennial plants and more.

SMUDGE, a locally owned and operated food truck, is participating in the market this year. They specialize in barbecue meats, sides and many more tasty treats.

“We’re still accepting vendors at any time for any number of market days,” he said.
