Car hauler crashes on I-78

On June 27 at approximately 4:25 p.m., State Police from the Hamburg station responded to a one-vehicle crash on I-78, in Greenwich Township.

The crash occurred as the driver of a Peterbilt car hauler, Carlose Rumph, age 48, of New Haven, Connecticut, was traveling in the right lane of westbound I-78. Another tractor trailer cut Rumph off after passing in the left lane. Rumph’s vehicle jack-knifed, striking the center concrete median before flipping over onto its passenger side. The vehicle then slid across both lanes of I-78, taking out several sections of guard rail before coming to a stop in the woods.

The driver was uninjured. I-78 Westbound was closed for more than four hours while the crash scene was cleared.
