Pottstown >> Local first responders are invited to a special appreciation event this Sunday.

Thunder Outreach Ministries will be hosting First Responder Appreciation Sunday on July 10 at Heart of God in Pottstown. The event will run from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“We’re setting time aside to honor all police, firemen, and EMTs,” said Chaplain Mark Malizzi. “They are all personally invited to be honored.”

Right now the goal is to get the word out. Whether you are a first responder or a community member looking to show support, there is no need to RSVP – just show up.

“It will be a great time of compassion and being together,” said Malizzi.

Malizzi will serve as the event’s guest speaker. The Thunder Outreach house band, Heaven’s Thunder, will be providing the entertainment.

Local departments have been notified about this event and some plan to bring trucks for display purposes. Malizzi says it will be hard to get a head count beforehand.

“It’s all about building relationships with our First Responders,” said Malizzi. “If you know a first responder – let them know they are invited. Help us thank them.”

In addition to the service and entertainment, there will be a luncheon held for first responders and their families. Several local authorities are endorsing the event.

Malizzi describes the event as “simple, but powerful” and as a chance to appreciate first responders for their everyday calling and duties. He wants each one to feel appreciated and to know that they are invited.”Sometimes we need to stop our busy lives and say thank you.”

The entire community is invited to come out and show support.
