Thunder Outreach held its First Responder Appreciation Sunday over the weekend at Heart of God in Pottstown. Local first responders were invited to participate Sunday, in addition to members of the community.
“There was a lot of good information shared back and forth, and a lot of love shared,” said Chaplain Mark Malizzi. Given recent current events, he emphasized how it’s more important than ever to gather as a community.
The turnout was twice the amount expected. Trucks from Pottstown and Lower Pottsgrove fire departments lined the street outside of the church.
Malizzi explained how the Pottstown community gathered for this time of togetherness. “Communities can complain, or make the determination to make things better.”
The first responders in attendance received a standing ovation from the crowd.
“The event opened the doors of communication.”
He also spoke about the need to create environment of goodwill like this one in order to build relationships and compassion for one another.
“We need to continue to share respect with one another,” said Malizzi.
