Clay on Main is getting ready to host its annual Ice Cream Social and Studio Open House. This free event is open to the public Saturday, July 16, from 1 to 3 p.m.
During the Ice Cream Social, attendees are welcome to watch demonstrations, participate in activities, listen to music in the Half Moon Cafe, and join tours of the studio, which feature a very interesting history that had been researched by Robert Wood, local artist and historian.
“The ice cream social is our chance for Clay on Main to welcome the community in,” said Dolores Kirschner, director. “It is our opportunity to allow folks to see what a working studio is like. Come in, look around, put your hands in some clay, and eat some ice cream.”
In addition to free ice cream cones, you are welcome to create your own ice cream sundae for only $5. All ceramic ice cream bowls were handcrafted by an artist in the studio and are available for purchase. Each one is unique.
“This is a cool time to meet local artists and see what they are working on in their studio. It is a neat chance to see their process. This is a down to earth place,” said Rachael Lapinski, 16, Pikeville.
Demonstrations include children’s craft activities, a community art project creating unique hand sculptures, and gardeners will be able to create their own miniature world in a fairy garden; all supplies are included free. Students from the Lehigh Valley Charter Arts High School will create caricature drawings. There is a fee of $5, which goes to the students.
This year’s exhibition will showcase the works of members, students, and friends of Clay on Main.
