Party on the Square Dedication Ceremony on Saturday, July 23, celebrates Hamburg’s newest community park located at 222 to 228 State Street.

“The major purpose is to dedicate the lot as a community gathering place. It has been one year since Our Town Foundation purchased the lot,” said Deena Kershner, Executive Director of the Our Town Foundation.

The lot was purchased on July 1, 2015 by Our Town Foundation.

“We purchased this lot to ensure that it remained a green area in the downtown corridor, and to use the area to host community activities,” she said. “We have since expanded the Taste of Hamburg-er Festival into that lot, used it for expansion of the Arts Fest, have started a weekly farmers’ market and now we are hosting the dedication event.”

Kershner said OTF would like to offer additional activities in the future, however they currently don’t have any running water to the lot.

“I have applied for grants to erect a pavilion with a concrete floor, add a parking lot in the rear, add lighting and to connect water and sewer lines,” Kershner said about the Square’s future. “In addition we would beautify the lot through adding landscaped areas and public art. We are currently in the process of designing a mural to be painted on the adjacent wall of the property.”

From 2 to 8 p.m., the rain or shine event features music, Beer & Wine Garden, children’s activities, magic, Pie Eating Contest, dunk tank, car raffle, short presentation by speakers and visuals of future plans for the Square. BBQ dinners, choice of pulled pork or pulled chicken with coleslaw and baked beans, will be sold by The Pink Pig.

“We will also be unveiling a large kinetic sculpture made by nationally renowned artist Jeff Kahn who is a founding member of the Hamburg Area Arts Alliance and lives in Lenhartsville,” she said.
