Abbie Boyer, of Kutztown, participated in a week-long educational course in business leadership at Susquehanna University’s Sigmund Weis School of Business, from June 26 to July 2.
The Leadership Institute for Entrepreneurship (LIFE) offers students an introduction to finance, banking, stock and bond markets, sales, advertising and global trade concepts, as well as hands-on experience in entrepreneurial decision making. With the help of computer simulations, small teams of students created and managed companies in a competitive environment. Teams made choices about company policy, marketing, product development, market research, pricing and production.
The week culminated in team presentations describing the dynamics of each company’s management process and assessment of each company’s performance.
Faculty from Susquehanna’s Sigmund Weis School of Business, business professionals and entrepreneurs served as guest speakers and advisors. The program was open on a competitive basis to students entering grades 10 through 12. Students were selected based on recommendations, academic skills, leadership qualities and future career aspirations.
Boyer is a student at Kutztown Area High School in the Class of 2017, and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Boyer.
