With not a cloud in the sky and music playing, families celebrated the carefree days of summer at the Boyertown YMCA’s Summer Luau.

“The annual luau is a favorite among our members and season pass holders of the Boyertown Community Pool,” said YMCA Advisory Board Chairman Mr. Brian Seidel. “It is a wonderful community event that brings everyone together.”

A highlight of the day is the pig roast with all the fixings prepared by Moyer’s Catering. This lunch is sponsored and served by Boyertown Area School District’s superintendent Dr. Richard Faidley and his family.

“We are fortunate to live in a community that offers a wide variety of services for children and families,” Dr. Faidley said. “This is just one of the many ways community organizations work together to provide positive activities.”

Throughout the day participants were treated to snow cones, family BINGO, yard games, a moon bounce, a limbo contest, a hula hoop contest and the always popular water balloon toss. Boyertown Area School District board member, Mr. David Lewis, helped in the BINGO tent where Ms. Sue Coyle of Pottstown was helping her great-niece Bailey, who attends the Boyertown Area School District, with the ins and outs of the game.

“We are grateful to the volunteers for their dedication to this event,” said Mrs. Kimberly A. Slonaker, Executive Director of the Boyertown Branch of the Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA. “The luau is one of the free events we offer throughout the year to show our appreciation to our members.”

Additional sponsors who helped make the day a success include Boyertown Area School District school board president and Boyertown YMCA Advisory Board Member Mrs. Jill Dennin who donated the prizes for BINGO, Boyertown YMCA Advisory Board Member Kristin Quigley who purchased the paper products and Event Sponsor The Ye Olde Train and Christmas Shoppe.
