On June 28 at approximately 12:23 p.m., State Police Trooper Jonathan Chipego was dispatched to a residence in the Topton Borough for a reported theft.

Upon investigation, it was learned that the victim, an 86-year-old Topton woman, was scammed by a company calling itself Break Logic, LLC from Herndon, Virginia.

The scam involved the victim’s computer being frozen and the company contacting the victim to fix or unfreeze her computer. The company then took the victim’s information and used it to make purchases at Wal-Mart and Western Union.

Unknown driver causes vehicle accident on Huffs Church Road

On July 18 at 2:05 p.m., State Police responded to a crash on Huffs Church Road at its intersection with Woodside Road, in District Township.

The crash occurred as driver Halley Zettlemoyer, 22, of Mertztown, was traveling east on Huffs Church Road in the area of the intersection. An unknown driver was traveling south on Woodside Road and failed to come to a stop at the posted stop sign. The driver entered the intersection. Zettlemoyer tried to avoid striking the vehicle, maneuvering it onto the eastbound shoulder of Huffs Church Road, where the undercarriage of the vehicle became stuck on a tree root, which was the vehicle’s final resting position.

The engine of Zettlemoyer’s vehicle began smoking and the driver could not move the vehicle. The unknown driver did not stop and continued east on Huffs Church Road.
