The West Nantmeal Historical Commission would like to erect an historical marker near the site, in West Nantmeal where a B-24 bomber crashed during WWII.

The plane, on a routine training flight from Will Rogers Field in Oklahoma to the Reading Air Field, was unable to land due to poor visibility. The lone survivor reported that the pilot informed the crew that they were going to land in Philadelphia, and that their gasoline supply was low. A short time after they were instructed to put on their parachutes, the plane crashed with wreckage spread over a 200 yard area on a farm in West Nantmeal Township.

Ten of the 11 crew members died, nine at the site and one the next day.

We wish to memorialize the sacrifice these men made in service to our country. All contributions are welcome and encouraged. They can be sent to West Nantmeal Historical Commission, PO Box 234 Elverson, PA 19520. Please annotate your check: WWII marker.

All contributors will be invited to the dedication ceremony.
