BIRDSBORO >> Borough Council members approved a motion to hire a seventh police officer for the Birdsboro Police Department.
Steven William Kasopsky recited his oath alongside Police Chief Theodore Roth and Mayor Joseph Peterson. Kasopsky’s family members bore witness to a milestone in his career.
“I appreciate the opportunity. I look forward to working in Birdsboro and I’m excited for my career,” said Kasopsky.
Later in the meeting, Chief Roth extended sincere thanks to council members. “Once again I’d like to thank borough council for their support for allowing us to hire another officer. It’s very much appreciated. We certainly need seven officers.”
In additional business, Councilman Peter Uhniat proposed bumper stickers of various styles as a way to promote Birdsboro as a brand.
Councilman Steve Lusky suggested purchasing magnetic bump stickers. Uhniat’s marketing plan is creating a brainstorm of ideas among council members, who want to see the small borough flourish.
Council Vice President Cindy McGee is looking for local florists, farmers and vendors to participate in a flea market and farmer’s market. The event takes place on Saturday, Sept. 17, at Main Bird Park.
“We are going to limit, so if one person sells pumpkins the other person isn’t going to be allowed. It’s first-come, first-served,” said McGee.
Council President David Blank reported that Alice Focht Memorial United Methodist Church is planning to hold a memorial service on Sunday, Sept. 11, at 4 p.m.
In closing, council approved a motion to offer P. David Chaney for the chief operator of Birdsboro Wastewater Treatment Plant. The position will need replacing because David Clark plans to retire in 2017. Further details will be disclosed at a later date.
