The sounds of the Blues filled Kutztown Park on Sunday, Aug. 21. Blues bands continued to play even while heavy rainfall poured down from the heavens. Many Blues fans came prepared with umbrellas. Peter and Natalie Saul came to the Blues Festival prepared for the rain with a canopy tent.

2nd Story Blues Alliance hosted Valley Blues, Brews & BBQ Festival at Kutztown Park from 12 to 8 p.m.

While the event is in its 11th year of what used to be known as the Fleetwood Blues Festival, 2SBA is in its second year of producing the festival.

President Brian Berlanda said in the event release that 2nd Story Blues Alliance’s vision is “to bring together the Blues communities of both the Lehigh and East Penn Valleys and broaden the audience for the talent rich performers that entertain each market on a regular basis.”

“Thus the reason for changing the name to The Valley Blues, Brews & BBQ Festival to show representation and solidarity within the two Blues communities, with hopes to grow the event in future years,” said Berlanda.

The day-long festival featured barbecue and food specialty vendors and local and regional blues acts from the tri-state area.

Blues performances continued even though there were periods of rain fall.
