The State Theatre Preservation Society of Boyertown is asking for the community’s help. The non-profit organization wants to raise $132,000 to breathe new life into the region’s most culturally, historically significant structures: The State Theatre.
Erected in 1912, the structure was designed by David Supowitz, and houses the only known surviving examples of R.E. Greco’s theatre mural artwork. Once a mainstay to public events, the State Theatre, along with other local community theatres across the country, is in danger of fading away into a total state of decay, and the STPS seeks to reverse this trend by making the Boyertown theatre a vibrant, modern, exciting venue for community events one again.
“This building is more than a monument of a bygone era. It is a piece of living history that is perfect for hosting concerts, plays, movies, or anything our community needs it to,” Charles Haddad, President at STPS says. “This building has served the community for more than a century. Now we are asking for the community to give back whatever they can. We are so grateful for the response our campaign has gotten so far, and are so energized to see this campaign through to the end. We know we’ll reach our goal.”
While the structure itself has been saved and is currently getting a facelift, the campaign seeks funds to bring the building into the 21st century by outfitting it with modern audio/visual equipment, such as a digital projector, and other cosmetic upgrades and repairs.
The State Theatre Preservation Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and operating the historic State Theatre by presenting a rich, diverse array of film, performing arts, education, and more in order to enrich the cultural life of the Boyertown community and beyond.
