Lower Merion School District ordered to roll back 4.4 percent tax hike; court cites surpluses

Calling it “unlawful,” a Montgomery County judge this week ordered the Lower Merion School District to rescind its 4.4 percent tax increase for the 2016-17 school year budget. At the same time, Commons Pleas Court Judge Joseph A. Smyth issued an order preventing the school board from enacting a tax of more than 2.4 percent above the previous year’s tax rate.
