POTTSTOWN >> Pottstown pets will be out and about once again as the annual pet fair returns to Memorial Park.
On Sept. 17, all kinds of animal friends will be romping around Memorial Park to celebrate the 6th Annual Pet Fair.
The event will include a few new features this year along with some of the familiar favorites. Vaccine clinics, rescue organizations, animal blessings and pet adoptions will all be returning this year. There will also be a variety of tents that offer pet merchandise and treats.
A demonstration by the Pottstown Police Department K-9 Unit will be a new addition this year. In previous years, while officers and their K-9 partners had made an appearance, the department did not put on any demos for the guests. This year, officers will do a full scale K-9 demonstration including a bite demo. The event will also have a new kids section, designed specifically for fun activities that expose children to all types of pets.
“It’s not just cats and dogs. Normally when you think of a pet you think of a cat or dog. You don’t think of exotic snakes, rats, farm animals. It’s the whole animal world,” said Sharon.
Additions such as those continue to keep the pet fair growing. The fair is currently the largest of its kind in Pennsylvania and by the end of August, the number of vendors signed up to be part of the fair had exceeded last year’s.
“Last year I think we had like 63 or 64 and we just picked up our 73rd vendor,” said Sharon last week. “This has become a destination place. I have heard from people who have attended events in other parts of the state and they say, ‘I’m from Pottstown’ and people will say, ‘That’s where the Pet Fair is.'”
This year’s Pet Fair will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Memorial Park, 75 W. King Street. For more information on the Pottstown Pet Fair visit www.facebook.com/PottstownPetFair2012.
