AMITY >> A vacant lot off Route 422 may be occupied by a Dollar General store next spring.

Robert Gage, senior vice president of Net Lease Development for GBT Realty of Brentwood, Tenn., told the Board of Supervisors on Sept. 7 that it will lease 1.1 acres from I&G of Douglassville for the 9,100-square-foot building.

I&G plans to subdivide the 2-acre property, which is located in front of Hope United Methodist Church, 117 N. Monocacy Creek Road.

There are currently no development plans for the property’s remaining .9 acres.

Board members agreed to recommend to the Amity Zoning Hearing Board that it approve two of three waivers.

Those waivers are to reduce the required parking spaces from 61 to 30, and to increase the impervious surface from 60 to 65 percent.

The board did not approve a sign variance for a 20-foot-high pole sign.

Board members said township ordinance requires a monument sign of no more than 15 feet high and 160 total square feet.

The zoning board is scheduled to hear the application on Sept. 19, although it may be reviewed first by the Amity Planning Commission on Sept. 14.

In other business, the board unanimously approved for the promotion of police Detective Jeffrey Smith to the rank of police sergeant.

Smith was hired as an officer by the Amity Township Police Department on March 1, 2002.

Police Chief Andrew J. Kensey said Smith satisfactorily completed all of the qualifying pre-requisites, including the written and oral exams.

Smith’s promotion will be effective the beginning of October.

It will include a 6-percent incremental salary increase.

Kensey said Aug. 17 that the department has established an “Internet Purchase Exchange Area” in its parking lot at 2004 Weavertown Road, Douglassville.

The two designated parking spaces will be under 24/7 police surveillance.
