A Reading driver lead police on a high speed chase at speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour on Route 61 that ended with the car flipping onto its roof at the Route 222 ramp.
State Police Hamburg report that troopers tried to stop a 1998 Honda Accord for an expired registration on Route 61 on Sept. 9 at 11:06 p.m.
The driver, Fauris Vargas-Olivo, 22, Reading, accelerated to speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour in the 55 mile per hour zone and turned off his lights to evade capture.
Vargas-Olivo drove through two red lights and attempted to take the Route 222 southbound ramp at a high rate of speed. He lost control of his vehicle and struck a concrete median. The vehicle was still operable. Vargas-Olivo attempted to maneuver the S-turn onto Route 222 south where he lost control a second time and flipped the car onto its roof, according to the police report.
Then, Vargas-Olivo fled the scene on foot, hiding in the woods. He was located four hours later by Muhlenberg Township Police at a Wawa on Route 61 and Reading Crest Blvd.
Vargas-Olivo faces many charges, including but not limited to, fleeing and eluding, speeding, and reckless driving. Charges have been filed.
