On Tuesday, Sept. 13, Boyertown’s Board of School Directors approved the amendment of the D’Huy Engineering contract which extends the architect’s services until the project’s anticipated completion date of August 2017.

The school board appointed and approved the contract with D’Huy Engineering back in April 23, 2013, to provide construction management services for the Boyertown Area Senior High School Addition/Renovation Project.

With the change of architects from EI Associates to D’Huy Engineering, and in change of project scope, the construction timeline has shifted from 23 months to 32 months. This change in the timeline has required additional construction services from November 2016 to the anticipated completion date of August 2017 at an additional cost of $223,000. These costs will be paid out of the project’s contingency fund.

The school board also took some action regarding date-stones.

With the renovation and additions the to high school underway, administration has asked to include a 2017 date-stone in the masonry the high school’s new main entrance. The estimated cost of this date-stone would be $4,700. This recommendation was previously shared at the Aug. 30 Facilities meeting.

The Boyertown Area Senior High School has been constructed, renovated, and added on to over a long period of time and includes a date-stone marking the completion of each of the four stages. The dates that was been highlighted up until this point include 1922, 1934, 1955 and 1994.

The request for a 2017 date-stone was approved by the board in addition to the relocation of the 1994 date-stone and time capsule which had to be removed due to the construction.
