POTTSTOWN >> Those interested in replacing Andrew Kefer on the Pottstown School Board should start brushing up their resumes.

Kefer submitted his resignation from the school board two weeks ago because his family is moving to West Virginia.

The resignation becomes effective on Sept. 30, which gives the school board one month to pick his replacement, said Solicitor Stephen Kalis.

Although the school code permits the board to simply pick a replacement, it also permits board members to solicit applications from the community.

And that is the path the board has decided to take, at the urging of board President Kim Stilwell.

Those interesting in completing the rest of Kefer’s term should submit letters of interest and, if they’re inclined, resumes, to the school district administration building on Beech Street.

The board agreed to an Oct. 10 deadline.

They also agreed to tentatively schedule the interviews for Thursday, Oct. 13, when several committee meetings are already schedule.

Kalis told the board that if they choose to invite candidates to apply, the personnel exemption for executive sessions does not apply and the applicants must be interviewed at a public meeting.

For the most part, the Pottstown School Board has followed this path when replacing school board members.

Kalis also informed the board that a new vice president must be chosen, now that Kefer has resigned.
