Haunted Boyertown Historic Walk: Begins at 8 p.m. from the Community Room in the lower level of the Boyertown Borough Hall at 100 S. Washington Street, Boyertown. This entertaining walk about Boyertown highlights properties where there is known or suspected paranormal activity and emphasizes the history behind it. There are two walks, on Reading Avenue and East Philadelphia Avenue. Cost is $12 and $10 for students. All proceeds benefit Building a Better Boyertown. St. Paul’s Fall Apple Festival: St. Paul’s Lutheran Church’s Fall Apple Festival is set for Saturday, Oct. 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will offer lots of food, terrific entertainment, a variety of vendors, and plenty of children’s activities. There is free parking, free admission, free music and lots of free activities for children. The free entertainment starts at 9 a.m. with the Boyertown Alumni German Band, sponsored by New Rhoads Transportation. Pastor Stephen & Friends Bluegrass Band will perform at 12:30 p.m. Comedy Juggler Jim Stilianos will entertain from 11 a.m. to noon, and there will be two bounce houses, with both events sponsored by the Daniel Boone Optimist Club. Dave Bause will provide free balloon animals to the kids from 11 – 12:30 p.m. St. Paul’s Lutheran Church is located on Rt. 662, just one mile north of Rt. 422 in Douglassville.

Boyertown Optimist Football: will hold a designer bag bingo fundraiser Saturday Oct. 1 at the Gilbertsville Fire Company, 1454 East Philadelphia Ave. in Gilbertsville. Cost is $30 for 20 regular games of bingo. Doors open at 5 p.m. Bingo starts at 7 p.m. For tickets, go to www.BaileysFundraising.org. All proceeds benefit the Boyertown Optimist Football program.

Birdsboro Contra Dance: offers contra dancing on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at Birdsboro Community Memorial Center, 201 E. Main St. in Birdsboro. Beginner instruction is at 7 p.m. Caller is Ridge Kennedy with music by Streak O Phat. Admission is $9 for adults, $6 students/seniors. Wear soft-soled shoes. 35th Annual Heritage Festival: Is taking place on both Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 1 and 2 at the Berks County Heritage Center from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This event provides a unique way for Berks County residents to learn about local history as well as their own heritage. It features an abundance of activities including a variety of musical entertainment, antique autos and wagons, draft horse activities, great food, and more. Tours will be available of the Hiester Canal Center, Gruber Wagon Works, Melcher’s Grist Mill and Wertz’s Red Bridge. Be sure to follow us on Facebook for a detailed listing of all the activities over the two days. Admission to the event is free, although a $5 parking fee is politely requested.
