Hamburg Strand Theater hosts a “Rocky Horror Picture Show” movie event, honoring the 1975 cult film’s 40th anniversary.

The Hamburg Strand Theater, 6 South 4th St., will show the original 1975 cult film, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, on Friday, Oct. 28 at 9:30 p.m. Audience participation is encouraged.

Some may remember the theater at the Muhlenberg Plaza, where the movie was shown at midnight in the late ’60s and early ’70s. Fans dressed up as characters, went to the front of the theater and acted out the scene along with the movie. In addition, the audience participated along with the movie with props, dancing the Time Warp, and ad lib responses. In addition, attendees who never experienced the Rocky Horror Picture Show in a theater were called “virgins” and were marked with a “V.” A modernized tribute of The Rocky Horror Picture Show is being shown on Oct. 20 via your local FOX station. Many fans feel that the original movie can’t be beat.

This event is in celebration of 40 years of theatrical distribution of the film, longer than any other film in history.

The film is a musical, comedy, science fiction, fantasy. In this cult classic, sweethearts Brad and Janet, stuck with a flat tire during a storm, discover the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a flirtatious mad scientist, during his annual Transylvanian science convention. Brad and Janet meet a houseful of wild characters, including a rocking biker and a creepy butler. Through elaborate dances and rock songs, Frank-N-Furter unveils his latest creation: a muscular man named “Rocky.”

Hamburg Strand Theater doors open at 9:15 p.m. Guaranteed seat tickets may be purchased in advance (includes prop bag) at the Hamburg Strand Theater. Go to the Hamburg Strand Theater website for more details on purchasing advance tickets, http://hamburgstrand.org. Tickets are limited.

The Hamburg Strand Theater is owned by Our Town Foundation, a non-profit Community Revitalization Organization, and is being managed by Stephanie Adam and Bethany Sholl who are responsible for the operation of the theater. Special movie nights have been introduced for specific audiences, they being Faith Nights and Girls Night Out. Both of these special nights have been successful and new ideas are always being considered. Due to the installation of a digital projector system, the managers are now able to show first-run movies, which has increased attendance at the theater. In addition, the managers have offered special movie events such as Star Wars with memorabilia being sold in the lobby and this Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Money raised beyond paying staff to run the theater goes back into the theater. Support the theater by attending our movies and special live performances. For more information on upcoming movies and events go to our website http://hamburgstrand.org.
