The Kutztown Rotary Club honored Paige Fenstarmacher and Ashley Bleiler as the first Students of the Month for the 2016-17 school year in ceremonies at the Kutztown Tavern Oct. 5.

The award is presented by the club each month during the school year to seniors from Brandywine Heights and Kutztown Area High Schools to honor their academic achievement, school participation and contribution to their communities. Nominees are proposed by school guidance counselors.

Fenstermacher is the daughter of Patrick and Gail Fenstermacher of Mertztown. She is currently president of Brandywine’s branch of the National Honor Society, achieved high honor roll for three years, is a member of the National Art Honor Society, and is treasurer of senior class government.

On the volleyball team, she has been named all-division honorable mention, all-division No. 1 team and MVP, was captain her junior and senior year and was named to the BAHSD Sportsmanship Ambassador’s Council.

Fenstermacher has participated in the Brandywine Choralliers, Chamber Singers, Vaudeville, County Chorus and All That Jazz Talent Show, which she won. She has been sound technician or stage crew for several productions, president of the Spanish Club, and was the winner of the Soccer Language World Cup Team.

Ms. Fenstermacher has been a member of the Future Educators of America, Future Business Leaders of America, was on the first place team for the Reading Olympics. She was a model for the Wizard of Oz Fashion Show, an artist for the Brandywine Memory Project, secretary of the Student Connections Committee, a volunteer leader for Day One, head of he prom committee, was junior class princess and was secretary of BBN TV School News. She was also on the championship Junior Powderpuff Team.

In the community, she volunteered for Operation Christmas Child, Brandywine Safe Trick of Treat, the Lyons Fiddle Festival and Brandywine Elementary Move-in. She participated in Push the Rock Volleyball camp, went on to win the Penn State Happy Volley club championship and later became a coach for this and the Moravian College Hound Academy Volleyball Camp. She also participated in the Moravian High School Tune-up Camp, was a performer for Feed the Starving Artist and a sound technician for the Brandywine Juggling Festival.

Throughout high school, she has been an employee of PKF Industries.

Ashley Bleiler is the daughter of Enos and Christine Bleiler of Kutztown. She is in the National Honor Society for which served as secretary for the past two years. She has participated in the Kutztown Area High School Show Choir and Jazz Choir, and was chosen for the Junior County, Senior County, District and Region Choirs. She participated in the concert and marching bands, the musical, student council and was president of class government.

Ms. Bleiler was Kutztown representative for Berks Outstanding Young Woman, participated in the science olympiad, and was executive head of the Minithon. She served as Kutztown Representative for Rotary’s Camp Neidig, the Hugh D. Brien Leadership Conference, and the Pennsylvania Association of Student Councils Summer Leadership Workshop.

She has been active with her church youth group and has served on the church worship and music committee. She has also volunteered with the Friend, Inc. food pantry, the Relay for Life, the Opportunity House and Adopt a Highway litter control. Last July, she went on a mission trip to Guatamala.

To earn her spending money, she has done babysitting for multiple families in the Kutztown area.
