Twin Valley Elementary Center’s 4th graders were treated to an assembly featuring the Philadelphia Eagles Mascot, Swoop, and several Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleaders on Wednesday, Oct. 5, to kick of a month-long activity challenge. All 4th grade students received a physical activity log book and are required to keep track of their minutes of physical activity over a four-week time period. After the four-week time period, the students will return their books and see how they ranked up against other schools. The goal is to be the school with the most minutes of physical activity. The schools with the most minutes of physical activity will send students to a field day with the Philadelphia Eagles in the spring.

“We are excited to have our 4th grade students participate for a 2nd year in the NFL Play 60 program,” said Craig Sell, TVEC principal. “At TVEC, we are dedicated to promoting active, healthy lifestyles, and promoting good eating and exercise habits that will hopefully last a lifetime.”

Heather McHugh, TVEC’s physical education teacher, added, “Our students are so excited to get moving, and hope to be one of the top schools again, like we were last year. Their enthusiasm level and commitment is really thrilling, and will hopefully be contagious to the younger students in our school.”

The NFL Play 60 mission is to make the next generation of youth the most active and healthy.

In October 2007, the NFL launched NFL PLAY 60, a national youth health and fitness campaign focused on increasing the wellness of young fans by encouraging them to be active for at least 60 minutes a day.

Designed to tackle childhood obesity, NFL PLAY 60 brings together the NFL’s long-standing commitment to health and fitness with an impressive roster of partner organizations. In addition to national outreach and online programs, NFL PLAY 60 is implemented at the grassroots level through NFL’s in-school, after-school and team-based programs. The NFL PLAY 60 initiative is prominent during the NFL’s key calendar events, including Super Bowl, Pro Bowl, Draft, Kickoff and Thanksgiving and is supported by many NFL players and Coaches year-round. To date, the NFL has dedicated over $200 million to youth health and wellness through NFL PLAY 60.
