Chestnut Knoll Personal Care and Memory Care recently helped the Alzheimer’s Association by participating in the 2016 Walk to End Alzheimer’s, as well as holding their annual Beef and Beer Fundraiser, all on Saturday, Oct. 8. As a team, they so far have raised over $10,000 for this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s and there are still a few fundraisers left in the year to help them reach their goal of $18,000.

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s took place on the Penn State University Berks campus. Before the Walk began there was a Promise Garden ceremony, which allowed participants to raise their flowers, representing their promise to remember, honor, care, and fight for those living with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers. The colored flowers represented each walker’s connection to the disease: blue, for someone who has Alzheimer’s or dementia; purple, for someone who lost a loved one to the disease; yellow for someone currently caring for someone with Alzheimer’s; and orange, for everyone who supports the cause and vision of a world without Alzheimer’s.

The Chestnut Knoll team made their way around the 2-mile route around the campus. People young and old, and even some dogs, made up over 500 walkers in the event to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s.

After a morning of walking, Chestnut Knoll held their annual Beef and Beer Fundraiser: Moonlight Memories Masquerade Party.

The Beef and Beer event was held in the evening at the Keystone Fire Company and many residents, family members, friends and members of the Boyertown and surrounding communities came out to support a good cause. A special thank you also goes out to all the local businesses and partners in caring that donated items to the silent auction and raffle.

“Our Moonlight Memories Masquerade Party was a great way for our friends, family, and supporters to come out and get dressed up for a masquerade party, while raising funds for the Alzheimer’s Association. Everyone had a great time and we were able to raise a lot of money all benefiting a cause that’s so near and dear to us,” said Shawn Barndt, executive director.

Chestnut Knoll holds various fundraisers throughout the year to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association, including a Chicken BBQ and Pulled Pork sale; and individual donations from team members, painting parties, and mixers at local restaurants.

“We see each day, the effects that this terrible disease has on the victims and the families and want to thank everyone who helped at our fundraisers and donated to our team!” Although we do all we can to support everyone through the process through our services at Chestnut Knoll, we look forward to a world without Alzheimer’s,” said Barndt.

Donations are accepted through the end of 2016. Anyone who wishes to donate to the Chestnut Knoll team can contact Chestnut Knoll, by calling 610-473-8066, or by visiting www.alz.org and searching for the “Chestnut Knoll” team.

Chestnut Knoll continues to be a leader in care for seniors with Alzheimer’s and dementia. They have worked closely with the Alzheimer’s Association for many years and provide great service to those in need of special assistance in Memory Care. The staff is trained through a program designed by the Alzheimer’s Association in how to care for residents who suffer from Alzheimer’s. In addition, Alzheimer’s Association official Alzheimer’s Support Groups are provided each month for caregivers or family members of those suffering from Alzheimer’s to learn more about the disease, and what to expect.
