On Friday, Oct. 21, the Borough of Boyertown buried a time capsule at the community park in honor of its sesquicentennial.
Those in attendance included Mayor Marianne V. Deery and Council President Frank Deery, State Rep. David Maloney, Boyertown’s 1966 Centennial Queen Jude Neiman and Boyertown Sesquicentennial Queen Calista Bender. Attendees were invited to assist in the burial process by shoveling dirt onto the capsule once it was placed in the ground.
The time capsule – a treasure chest that was designed and built by the Boyertown Planing Mill – was placed inside a larger sealed metal box to prevent any future water damage. Some of the items selected to be inside the capsule include: the championship baseball from the Boyertown American Legion team, a cell phone, a TV guide, an issue of People Magazine, and a book filled with letters written by people from the community. It will be fifty years until anyone sees those items again.
This event concludes the borough’s 150th anniversary celebration.
