Now through Nov. 5Berks County Genealogical Society: is offering a series of four classes for the beginning genealogist. Classes will meet in the society’s library, Room 413 at the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, 201 Washington St., Reading, PA 19601. Remaining dates are Saturday, Oct. 29 and Nov. 5 from 2-4 p.m. Cost: $35 per person, includes use of the library on class days Students must preregister by calling the library any day between noon and 4 at (484) 509-4806. Fee is payable at the first class session with cash, check or credit card. Class size is limited, so register now.

Oct. 26Brahms: will be one of the focal points in a discussion of the second concert in this season of the Reading Symphony Orchestra. Daniel Brye, personnel and operations manager of the orchestra will lead the discussion. The presentation will be Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the Highlands at Wyomissing, 2000 Cambridge Ave. Tickets are $5 and the series is sponsored by The Penn State College of Arts and Architecture and the Reading Symphony Orchestra League.

Spirit Bereavement Support Group: will hold its monthly meeting Wednesday Oct. 26 at 6 p.m.at the Exeter Community Library. The group is for those that are survivors of the sudden unexpected death of their spouse or significant other. No registration is required and it is FREE. Oct. 27Magic show: On Thursday, Oct. 27, Mifflin Community Library in partnership with Dairy Queen of Kenhorst will present The Magic of Erick Hershey as Captain Cutlass, a free family event at DQ of Kenhorst from 6-8 p.m. They will offer pirate-themed kids’ games and crafts before and after the show which begins at 6:30. Nov. 5Holiday Bazaar: will be held on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s UMC – 1136 Geigertown Road, Birdsboro PA 19508. There will be a silent auction, baked goods, homemade soups, white elephant items and much more.

Nov. 12Holiday Bazaar: Saturday, Nov. 12 from 8 a.m to 3 p.m. at Harmony United Methodist Church, Route 10N, Morgantown . Lots of Christmas crafts, gift items, baked goods. Lunch available.

Garden Club: Pottstown Area Garden Club welcomes amateurs interested in all aspects of gardening. Meetings are held the first Friday of every month at St. James Lutheran Church, 1101 E. High St., Pottstown at 11:30 a.m. Contact 610-327-2235.

Birdsboro Rotary: Birdsboro Rotary Club meets 6:30 p.m. every Thursday at the Reading Country Club, 5311 Perkiomen Ave, Reading.

Pagoda Writers: The Pagoda Writers group gets together from 1 to 3 p.m. the first Saturday of every month on the second floor of the Pagoda, 98 Duryea Dr., Reading.

Stitching Circle: The Mifflin Community Library’s Evening Stitching Circle meets every Monday from 6:30-8 p.m., and the Afternoon Stitching Circle meets every Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. New members are always welcome and should bring their own materials. There are currently between 12-15 members who sew, knit and crochet. The group works on personal projects as well as service projects to benefit the community. Come join in loads of fun & stitching!

Writers group: Mifflin Writers Group continues to meet the 1st & 3rd Thursdays of the month from 6:30-8 p.m. Mifflin Writers Group is composed of writers of all genres and levels of experience. Their purpose is to motivate, inspire, instruct, inform, share and critique each other in their writing efforts in a free flowing and relaxed atmosphere. Most programs encourage pre-registration and take place downstairs at the Mifflin Community Library unless otherwise noted.
