Hawk Mountain Sanctuary

Autumn Hawk Watch: Daily through Dec. 15 at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, Kempton, at North Lookout, weather permitting. An average 18000 birds of prey will soar over the Kittatinny Ridge, and each year Hawk Mountain staff, volunteers, and trainees help tally the number and type of birds that pass. An official counter and interpreters are on hand to point out and identify raptors. Visitors should bring binoculars (or rent them at the Visitor Center), something soft to sit on, and a daypack with water and snacks. Fall Weekend Programs Saturdays and Sundays until Nov. 13: Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, Kempton. Free with trail fee. Drawing from Raptor: Oct. 29. 10 – 11:30 a.m. There is a charge; supplies provided for fee. Dierdre Murphy will teach drawing from live American Kestrels or Screech Owls. No drawing experience necessary.

Intersection of Art and Science: Oct. 29. 5:30 p.m. FREE. Dierdre Murphy will speak about her paintings and how her artist residency at Hawk Mountain has informed her studio practice.

Oct. 27″The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Allies of Kutztown University will host their annual showing of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. in the McFarland Student Union Multipurpose room (218). This event is free and open to the public. Attendees are invited to dress up as their favorite characters for the pre-show. The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a classic film with a cult following. A tale about love, adventure, and sex brings the audience in, to participate in the show. Audience members dress up as their favorite characters to take their viewing experience to the next level. Ghost Lantern Tour: See Crystal Cave in a different light. Guides wearing period clothing present the original Crystal Cave tour from the 1870′. The 1892 Public School Building will be open and decorated for the holidays with vintage displays and period collections.
